July Minutes
Pam inquired as to Jay Brien’s condition. Florence announced he is doing better though we are not sure of his return date. John White has been a wonderful replacement.
Pam stated that we need more information on the transportation report.
Pam does not think she should be on the Pier 44 Committee due to her position on the board. Correct last months minutes.
July minutes accepted with corrections.

Florence Reports
Sending the Newsletter out every 2 months is working out well. However, last minute scheduling/additions do not make it to press. Because of this, news of some activities and events doesn’t get out in time and some things must be canceled.
Project Safety Net is going well. We are accepting donations to be funneled into the program since there is a $90 application fee and $30/month charge. We are hoping that 70% of seniors can pay for their own and the donations can carry those who do not have the means to pay it all themselves.
Jeff Dougan of the Mass Dept. of Disabilities (Agenda item #8) met with Florence and they are working to get the R.I.D.E. into Scituate. It would serve disabled people better than our existing LINK due to the fact that there is no finite budget. Mitigation money from the MBTA funds the LINK. Riders pay a small fee to travel on the R.I.D.E. Shawn offered to compose a letter to the MBTA requesting the R.I.D.E. come to Scituate. He will get signatures from Scituate’s “hierarchy.” Florence is hoping that we can get GATRA too.
The Formula Grant has been approved at $25,179! We have replaced Outreach Assistant Kathy Stimpson with Outreach Assistant Jenny Gerbis. We have also purchased new software that will help log in activity participants more accurately and better track our Annual Report numbers; all at NO COST to the town!!
Activities that were on vacation this summer will be resuming soon. This includes Arthritis Exercise, Zumba, Bowling,
Transportation Report—Total rides provided in July were 364 vs. 500 in June. July was terribly hot. Rides and participation were down. We let the seniors know that they are welcome to spend time at the Center any time to keep cool. Florence wants SCOA to use the MAP Transportation program more. Hingham is now the lead agency for MAP and will be for the next two years at which point Scituate COA will assume the duties.
Outreach—Kate Granigan will be hosting a “Raising Your Grandchildren” Workshop
On September 21, 2010 @ 7PM. This is to help grandparents that are raising their grandchildren while the parents work or are in abstentia. There is a 40-person limit. We expect it to be very well attended as fliers will be distributed, schools will be called, it will be in the Newsletter, Mariner, church bulletins, sent to other COA’s, etc.

Old Business
The Pier 44 Building Options and Feasibility Study Committee Charge’s applications can be found online. Anyone who’d like to apply for a seat on the committee can download and apply.
Pam urges any COA Board Member, who feels they have some credentials and can speak to the Selectmen in a convincing fashion, should apply. You will be considered and it would be wonderful to have one of our own on the Committee.

New Business
Shawn stated that the Selectmen are now accepting applications for the above-mentioned Pier 44 Committee.

SSES Update
Joan Powers announced that the SSES Annual Picnic would be held on August 26, 2010
From 11 to 2 at Paget field in Quincy.

Adjournment
Board voted to adjourn at 7:04 PM

Respectfully submitted
Quincie-Ann Cutler
