3. Staff and Director reports:
--Florence stated that our Charter requires the Board to vote on the COA budget for fiscal 2012. We have been cut by a total of $4330.00 which includes reduction in our funds for electricity, support services, vehicle services, and materials and supplies. This is all overhead expenses. Our personnel budget in- creased by $2557.00. The COA’s total budget for fiscal 2012 is $245,935.00; that is, as things now stand. Further cuts could loom in our future.

--Donations to the COA have been averaging $300/mo. They are MOST helpful.

--The goal is set for three fundraisers: 1. Jazz Concert/venue and date to be determined. 2. Cookbook/August, 2012. We have six people signed up to help, and our Tuesday Art group will be doing the illustrations! A cook- off will determine the “chosen” recipes for the book. 3. Art Show, hopefully at the Maritime Center on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011.

--(6) The Commission on Disabilities has a line item in their budget for us/ help with our transportation; supplementing our gas and van service allocation. A letter to Mary Gallagher will give our payables department access to that account. Thank you!!

--Our programs are thriving but the weather has made attendance difficult. Our numbers, nonetheless, are on the rise! The St. Patrick’s Day luncheon is already full. We now host a senior men’s poker game on Wednesday mornings. Dale Balog’s Memoir Writing program starts on Jan. 28th and we have 10 sign-ups.

--Transportation Report; The month of December was busy—we delivered 436 local rides, 95 LINK, 2 MAP, and 10 Volunteer. Our Volunteers worked for 34 hours and our vans were driven for 1393 miles.

--Outreach Report: Our Outreach department conducted 4 home visits, 48 office visits and completed 108 phone calls. Their production numbers show 182 Duplicated seniors and 114 Unduplicated. They have been very busy with fuel assistance.

4. Old Business

a. GATRA Update. Meeting with GATRA cancelled and rescheduled to Feb. 1st.

b. Community Center Update—The CC Committee has not met, waiting for the Selection Committee to meet. Audrey Reidy (who we hear is OUTSTANDING at the Selection Committee) reports that they (Selection) are planning to put out a survey to the entire Town to hear what all of the folks want Pier 44 to become! We all look forward to that. The COA Board emphasizes their collective vote for Community Center!

5.New Business

a. Municipal Update-Shawn Harris stated that Fuel Assistance supplement has gone up to $1300. He also said that Joe Kennedy’s Citizens group would pick up more after that. Shawn thanked and the entire Board applauded the Scituate Fire and Police Departments for their great work during this winter; especially the “Christmas” storm. He also said that Al Bangert is trying to get the roads better treated.

b. Board voted unanimously to approve 2012 Budget.

6.Reports

SSES report by Joan Powers—SSES is waiting for the state budget to rear its ugly head. They expect more cuts. They do not yet know where their new Headquarters will be; probably Braintree. There was no report for the Commission on Disabilities.

7. Meeting adjourned at 6:57 PM

Respectfully submitted,

Quincee Ann Cutler
