Board of Directors Meeting
September 14, 2011

Attendees: Pam Davis-Chairwoman, Florence Choate-Director, Dale Balog, Jim Harmon, Richard Mitchell, Audrey Reidy, Gerard Fierimonte, Joan Powers, Meg Stillman

1. Meeting called to order at 6:00 PM

2. Vote to elect officers for 2011-2012 year:
--Chair--Pam Davis, Unanimous Yes
--Vice-Chair Jim Harmon, Unanimous Yes
--Treasurer--Richard Mitchell, Unanimous Yes
--Clerk—Dale Balog, Unanimous Yes
(This is a new post, established in the event that the taping of the meeting is
impossible. In such a case, Dale would record the meeting manually and create
the minutes.
3. Vote To Accept Minutes of August, 2011 Meeting:
--Accepted unanimously by members who were present at August meeting.

4. Staff and Director Reports:

Director:
-- August was a busy month. We had a full house on all programs but Bingo. Dale did a wonderful job facilitating the bingo while it lasted. It has since moved back to Central Park.
--We have added Chair Yoga to the roster. It is held on Wednesday mornings at 10:30, following regular yoga.
--Memoir Writing started this week
--October 8, 2011, our annual Art Show will be held at the Maritime Center.
--On October 20, we will be holding a Shine Presentation. It will be at the Scituate Harbor Community Center at 10:00 AM. Changes in Medicare will be discussed.
--On November 15, we will hold a Health Fair at the same venue. This will be a more encompassing forum on modern health care. Folks from South Shore VNA, South Shore Hospital, Scituate Board of Health, South Shore Elder Services, a Pharmacist to speak on prescription drug issues, to name a few, will be offered. Volunteers from Cardinal Cushing Hospital are helping us plan the Fair.
--There will be a Craft Fair at the Senior Center in November.
--The Scituate COA Christmas Luncheon will be on Tuesday, December 20, 2011. As of now, we need more artists to participate.
--The Annual Report shows our numbers are UP!
--The Formula Grant is all set, but we could use some of it to hire a 20/hr person.
--The 2012 Budget is set.

Transportation:
--August numbers show a total of 630 transports for the month. Of these, 527 were mostly local and all were on the COA vans. 90 were on the LINK and volunteers drove 7. A total of 54 volunteer hours were so generously given. Forty of the volunteer hours were spent driving our vans and some in their personal cars. 14 hours were given escorting our seniors to medical appointments. The Scituate COA vans drove a total of 1410 miles in August.
Our Annual Report showed a tally of 6014 rides for the year. Only Weymouth transported more, and by a few hundred rides.
Outreach:
--Home Visits- 5, Office Visits- 26, Meetings attended- none, Calls –76,
Referrals-28, Duplicated 69, Unduplicated 27.
--Nancy and Jenny did attend a Veteran’s Training. This was about those who served our country and their spouses and the resources available to them.

5. Old Business
A. Community Center Update—None available
B. GATRA Update-Frank Gay of GATRA canceled his appointment to meet with Florence and the Town Administrator. A new date has not been set and things are up in the air for the time being. The MBTA does assess Scituate at $110K. Florence said that we need the Town Administrator to put GATRA before the Selectmen.
C. Add-on: A/C update on the Senior Center-4 bids have been sent to Mr.Bangert.
This may wait a bit until all Town buildings have been audited.

7. Reports
A. SSES Update by Joan Powers—SSES will have their Annual Meeting on
Wednesday, November 16, 2011. The main topic at the meeting will be a Care Transition Grant. South Shore Hospital is working on funding of this grant where
they will work with SSES in transitioning patients from hospital to home and services to help in this transition, thus avoiding a stretch in rehab/nursing home.
Done properly, this should please everyone, including Medicare.

B.Comm. On Disablities Update by Jerry Fierimonte: No meeting, no update.
Jerry resigned as our liaison to the Comm. On Disabilities.
