Download a book to your E-reader or MP3. Reserve a copy of your favorite bestseller. Research your family history in the Local History room and on Ancestry.com. How do I get a library card?
You can get a card on the spot when you come in to the library! You need to bring a photo ID (e.g., license, passport, student ID) and proof of current address (e.g., license, car registration, lease, bill, checkbook). Children of any age are eligible to get their own library card. They must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to obtain one.
A new library card is free. The cost for replacement of a lost card is $5.
Your Scituate library card can be used at any of the 28 member libraries of the Old Colony Library Network (OCLN).
You can register online for a Library eCard. The eCard only allows you to place holds on library materials, download audio books and search the research databases. You must come in to the library to have your eCard upgraded to a permanent library card to check out any materials. To get a Library eCard go to the Library website and click on Library Catalog.
How do I search for items?
It's easy! The Library Catalog is accessed over the Internet and is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Library Catalog lists all the materials owned by the 28 member libraries of OCLN, including books, downloadable audio and e-books, CDs, videos, DVDs, books on tape and CD, large print books, foreign language materials, magazines, and more. Searches can be done by title, author, subject and type of material.
If you don't have an item I want, can you get it for me?
Yes! Using the Library Catalog, OCLN cardholders can request materials by placing holds on items. If an item is owned by another library or the Library Catalog says "Material has been checked out", you may place a hold on it. If the material you're looking for is not in the Library Catalog (at any OCLN library location), it may be readily available from a library outside the Old Colony Library Network via the Massachusetts Virtual Catalog or via Interlibrary Loan. Visit the library's website (www.scituatetownlibrary.org) for information on how to place these requests or ask anyone at the Library for help.
Do you have public computers?
Yes! Currently, the library has 6 Internet computers for public use, all installed with printers and Microsoft Office.
A library card, current license or photo ID is required to use the Internet computers.
Wireless Internet access is available throughout the library. We do not have a public FAX machine.
