Stretch Code Info
The Massachusetts "Stretch" Energy Code will go into effect in the Town of Scituate on July 1, 2011. The new code will require builders of new homes to engage the services of a professional HERS (Home Energy Rating System) rater to conduct tests to ensure that the newly constructed homes in Scituate meet this new energy code. If you are planning an alteration or addition to an existing home you will not be required to hire a HERS rater.

Building permit fees are based on the value of construction:
- $30.00 Minimum and $10.00 per $1,000.00 of estimated cost of construction.
- Demolition permits: $100.00 Residential and $150.00 Commercial.
- Occupancy Permit: $30.00
- Sign Permits: $30.00 Residential and $50.00 Commercial.
- Wood Stove Permits: $30.00
- Zoning Permit: $30.00
