School Safety Page - Welcome

Welcome to the school safety page. Here you will find information on the safety topic being discussed this month by Officer Wood at the elementary schools. We hope that this will help to keep parents abreast of what students are learning in the safety program. The information from this program provides a framework that can help children identify situations that may jeopardize their well-being. Parents are encouraged to build upon this framework and give their children additional information and safety rules that meet their child's specific needs.

Topics covered in the safety presentations are designed to make students aware of safety issues and strategies to be safe through discussion of issues of a timely nature. Our goal is to present topics at times when students will need to have the information fresh in their heads, hopefully encouraging the student to practice safe behaviors so that they might avoid a preventable injury or some other type of dangerous situation. Some of the topics are seasonal, such as Halloween Safety, Winter Safety, Bicycle Safety and Summer Safety. Some are topics of on-going concern, such as Personal Safety, Playground Safety, School Bus Safety, Home Alone Strategies and Pedestrian Safety. There may also be times when programs are offered to meet specific needs that arise within the school community or the community at large.

Students are encouraged to discuss the information with their parents, as the topics discussed will require information specific to each student to be the most useful. Take the time to do this with your child so that we can work together to help keep our most valuable resource, our children, safer.
