Mission Statement: The Mission of the Scituate Recreation Department is to provide exceptional and creative programs, services and facilities (such as beaches, ball fields and playgrounds) that foster community spirit and involvement while enhancing the quality of life for all people in Scituate.

Along with planning, organizing and executing the special events listed below we also run approximately 300 plus classes a year. A full listing of our offerings can be found in our quarterly brochures (in the upper right side of page).

The Recreation Department offers the following variety of special events:

  • ANNUAL EASTER EGG HUNT in April
  • MR. C's 5 AND 6 YEAR OLD SOCCER PROGRAM, May-June
  • SCITUATE HARBOR UNPLUGGED an evening of original and contemporary music in July
  • P.J. STEVERMAN GOLF CLASSIC in September
  • CALLS FROM THE NORTH POLE in December

The Recreation Department is responsible for Lifeguard Service for the five beaches in the Town of Scituate:

  • Minot Beach
  • Peggotty Beach
  • Egypt Beach
  • Sandhills Beach
  • Humarock Beach

And Field Permitting for:

  • The Sixteen Athletic Fields
  • Tennis Courts
  • PJ Steverman InLine Skating Rink
  • Morrill Memorial Bandstand on Cole Parkway
  • Basketball Courts at Kazlousky Park

SUMMER 2012 EMPLOYMENT

Summer Employment & Volunteer forms will be up the beginning of January 2012. We will start accepting 2012 Summer Employment applications Tuesday, January 3, 2012 through March 14, 2012. Jobs include lifeguards, recreation counselors and sailing instructors. Interviews will be scheduled for April.

COMMUNITY SERVICE APPLICATIONS
(applications will be up on the website by BEGINNING of January 2012 and we will be accepting from January 3 through March 28, 2012)

Are you entering into High School next year and looking to get a jump on your required community service hours? Or are you already in High School and have not started your community service hours? If so, stop by the Recreation Department and pick up a community service application. The Recreation Department has many fun opportunities for you to give back to our community. An informational session will be held on Community Service Opportunities with the Recreation Department Interviews for Community Service Applicants will be held the first week in May. PLAN AHEAD: Due to the high volume of late applicants last summer, applications deadline will be March 28, 2012.
